Kennebec County -- The Cradle of Maine's Trotting Industry

In the 19th century, Kennebec County could easily have been considered the birthplace of Maine's Trotting Horse Industry. Kennebec County was home to Winthrop Messenger, General Knox, and the 1890's world champion trotting stallion, Nelson. Through collaboration and partnerships with Kennebec County historical societies, libraries, and interested parties, the intention for this blog is to present the photographs, images, and stories of the towns within Kennebec County during the period 1889 to 1899.
